Fire Station HVAC System Upgrade, Wellesley, Mass.
Construction was performed during summer months and completed before heating season began in the fall.
As part of the HVAC system upgrade, AEI designed a mechanical system that involved replacing the existing steam boiler with new hot water condensing boilers and a new hot water piping system with variable speed pumps and hot water suspended unit heaters in the apparatus bay. Controls were designed to interlock unit heater operation with overhead door position to reduce energy usage. In order to maintain operations during construction, AEI designed temporary utilities including domestic hot water, electricity, and exterior lighting.
